Glucometer: $20

Test strips: $80 for a box of 100

Having a grandmother who uses the same glucometer and test strips, but not as often so I get her extras: priceless

Slipping already?

Last night I was pretty close to skipping the gym. Now, I won't go if I don't have a way to get there, obviously, but last night I had my mother's car (my own always seems to be borrowed by my freeloading sister). There would have been no reason for me not to go. Plus I had a lot of reason to go, what with the trail mix and the pasta I had for dinner. I'm glad I manned up and went in the end. No slipping up!

huh?

Last night I had a vanilla sundae from McDonald's, and I was regretting it the whole night, expecting my blood sugar to be so high when I checked it before bed, but when I did check, it was low! WTF?

Overnight Lows

So I finally had my first overnight low since going back to the gym (which I am actually reluctant to call "overnight" because I got up at 5:30 to treat it, and I normally wake up at 6:00). I even shot less insulin before bed!

Oh well, it happens once in a while, just have to roll with it, although I wish it would happen less. I have enough trouble sleeping through the whole night without having to get up in the middle of it to stuff my face so I don't die. Plus it defeats the purpose of working out.

Mondays at the Gym

Considerably different than Fridays. It's like people have a New Week's Resolution every Monday to start working out again. The place is packed!

When it's like that, I usually have to wait for a treadmill. I could do something else in the meantime, but I had already done 20 minutes on the bike and 10 on the elliptical, so I was ready for something (relatively) easier.

Luckily for us, a long time ago the staff realized that there were always line-ups for the treadmills, so they put a few more on the weights floor, and that's where I ended up tonight. I don't usually like it down there because I have to try and avoid eye contact with all the sweaty men on the weight machines. On top of that, the tv on my treadmill was wonky, so I was left to inspect the lighting, the pictures on the wall, and what was going on outside.

All in all, it was good. I went early, and came back early, so I'll jump in the shower and get a reasonable amount of sleep.

Fridays at the Gym

Gym was good tonight. I had the luxury of staying a little longer since I don't have to get up early to go to work, but I'm not more tired than usual. It's also nice and quiet at the gym on a Friday, since most people have better plans, so I didn't have to wait for a machine.

I also saw someone I went to school with, but never talked to, and saw the other diabetic girl at my school when I stopped in at Walmart before my workout. That was kinda nice. There is usually someone else from school I see, but it has been so long since the last time I was in my "yes I am using my gym membership" phase that he could be off of his.

Oh well, it was a good workout and I am going to go shower now.

The Gym

Yay! I did it! I went back to the gym after...what? A year and a half, almost? Anyway, it has been too long and I'm glad to be back.

It was like I never left either, except that I didn't remember my lock code and I spent another 5 minutes in the car before I went it figuring it out, and they updated a lot of machines. It was pretty painless, too. Okay, I didn't work out as hard as I used to, but I also haven't been in a year and a half so I couldn't over-do it right away. No eye-candy stood out either, but most of the time I'm not even looking at other people, so no loss.

I also thought I had my insulin-to-exercise ratio right last night, because I didn't feel like crap when I got out, but I did find I was low when I checked my blood sugar level before bed.

All in all it was pretty good. I hope not to drop off again, at least until I have to fit into that bridesmaid dress for the last time. And I won't have to feel like an ass everytime my endo asks me if I exercise.

Monday 2 March 2009

I don't know why,

...but I can never get my insulin to exercise ratio right. I worked out earlier, and now my blood sugar is low. I know I'm supposed to take less insulin when I plan to work out, and I do, but it still always seems to be too much.

Either that, or eat more carbs before I go work out. But that defeats the purpose.

YAY!

I did it! I finally worked out! Okay, it was in my basement on 30+-year-old equipment, but it's a start! I wanted to go to the gym but I never seem to have use of my OWN car unless it's a completely useless time to go anywhere. I'd rant about that, but that's for my other blog. Right now I'm just glad that I got started and hopefully I can go to the gym tomorrow night, if it doesn't get too late.

I'm hoping there's some new eye candy to scope too, since it has been a while since I've been.
